Dr. Abid Mahmood

Dr Abid Mahmood secured M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees from University of Cambridge, England in 1989 and 1992, respectively and Post-Doctorate from University of Nebraska, USA in 2004. He joined Research Wing, Agriculture Department in 1987 and continuously been serving from 32 years. He took several R&D initiatives for promotion of Agriculture in Punjab. He contributed in the Development of 41 varieties of various crops and fruits. These include mega varieties of cotton i.e., MNH-886, FH-142 and FH-Lalazar. He evolved drought tolerant varieties of Wheat, Mungbean, Olive varieties. He introduced and promoted olive cultivation in Punjab through collection and screening of local & exotic olive germplasm for their adaptability in Punjab. Developed research & development boards of 25 research institutes to promote market-based research and for stakeholders’ interaction. 
Development of seedless kinnow variety (AARI-SL Kinnow) having high yield potential, excellent quality with seedless character and export potential are outcome of his concerted efforts.  He introduced Peaches, Grapes and High value date palm varieties in Punjab.  
He has 140 publications in journals of national and international repute; 68 out of which are in impact factor and HEC recognized journals and published 10 books/chapters. He has been awarded many national and internationals awards.
