In February, 1981, Punjab Government sanctioned a project “Soil and Water Advisory Service in the Punjab” for establishment of soil testing laboratories at Sheikhupura, Sargodha, Vehari & Rahim Yar Khan. The “Advisory Service” was further extended to other Districts under a separate scheme entitled “Soil & Water Advisory Service a Pilot Project at District level”. Recently the Soil & Water Testing Laboratory, Sargodha has been upgraded to Divisional Laboratory, under scheme “Up gradation of Soil and Water Testing Laboratory to Divisional level” at Sargodha. Now this Divisional Laboratory at Sargodha is functioning and helping to solve the problems of farmer’s community with respect to their soils and irrigation water, being used not only for general crops but also for citrus orchards. Moreover this Lab is providing quality fertilizer testing to farmers as part of advisory service and also providing fertilizer testing service under FCO as a certified ISO lab.
Mission

Objectives
- To assess the fertility status of soils with help of suitable laboratory techniques

- for the maintenance/ improvement of fertility of farmer’s soil
- recommending the use of proper levels of fertilizers
- To recommend the technology for amelioration of salinity and sodicity
- To survey and recommend the suitability of groundwater for irrigational purpose.
