Worthy Secretary Agriculture Mr. Iftikhar Ali Sahoo visited Maize & Millets Research Institute (MMRI), Sahiwal on 19-05-2023. Scientists of MMRI and Potato Research Institute (PRI), Sahiwal were present to welcome the Worthy Secretary. Dr. Syed Ijaz-ul-Hassan, Principal Scientist PRI and Mr. Asrar Mehboob, Principal Scientist, MMRI presented the objectives, achievements and Challenges of the institutes respectively. Worthy Secretary appreciated the efforts of MMRI and PRI and said that Agriculture research is backbone for the agriculture department and the government is committed to improve this sector through various policies and initiatives. He also pointed out that there is dire need to acknowledge the efforts of Agricultural Researchers. He shared his thoughts to start a system where researchers will be acknowledged for their remarkable achievements through certificates or cash prizes etc. He also informed the house that income targets will not be given to the research institutes but they will be given research targets. He also added that this was introductory session; soon there will be thorough visit of each institute.
