Minister for Agriculture, Punjab Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani visited Cotton Research Institute, Multan along with Worthy Secretary Agriculture Iftikhar Ali Sahoo , Secretary Agriculture South Punjab Saqib Ali Ateel and Members of Provincial Assembly.

Minister for Agriculture, Punjab Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani along with members of Provincial Assembly Rana Muhammad Saleem, Chaudhry Zia-ul Rehman, Chaudhry Osama Fazal, Osama Leghari and Zahid Akram visited the Cotton Research Institute, Multan on 02-05-2024. Secretary Agriculture, Punjab Iftikhar Ali Sahoo and Secretary Agriculture South Punjab Saqib Ali Ateel was also present. During the visit, Minister for Agriculture, Punjab inspected the experimental trials set up under the Cotton Research Institute, Multan and gave instructions to the scientists about the discovery of varieties compatible with climate change. He also inspected the varieties with leaves like Bhindi Tori, planted there. On this occasion, Minister for Agriculture Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani said that cotton varieties should be discovered which have immunity against whitefly and pink bollworm. The varieties planted as research material should be cultivated in different areas in order to check their potential. All research activities should be completed keeping in view the contemporary requirements. Varieties should be discovered which are profitable for the farmers. The types discovered are in line with the demand of the local textile industry. He said designing the research according to the market driven demand is the need of the hour. The Provincial Agriculture Minister said that modern research centers are being established at a cost of 1.5 billion rupees to improve the quality and production of cotton, wheat and rice. Earlier, Minister for Agriculture Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani and Secretary Agriculture Iftikhar Ali Sahoo also planted saplings in Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Agricultural University, Multan.
