Genetically resistant varieties  like Akbar-19, Markaz -19,Ghazi -19, Anaj-17, Barani-17, Ujala-16, Jauhar-16, Fatehjang-16, Gold-16, Borlaug-16, Pakistan-13, Millet -11, NARC-11, AAS-11, Faisalabad-08, Fakhar e Bhakkar,  Bhakkar Star and Zincol are still suggested for cultivation in the field.

Black listed varieties are Galaxy-13, AARI-11, Seher-06, Shafaq-06, AS-02 , Inqalab-91, Watan, Chakwal-50, Gandum-1, TD-1 and V-03094. These varieties are not recommended for cultivation in the field.


What precautionary measures are taken while threshing wheat crop?

Broken grain itself invites the rate of insect infestation in maximum number. So, avoidance of broken grain during threshing is, primarily, the best option as precautionary tool.    

How much moisture contents are required for threshing and storage of wheat grains?

The moisture contents must be less than 10%, which is identifiable by taking grains into jaws to cut and produce the voice of tuck.   

Can old bags be used for proper storage of wheat grains?


Of course, old bags can be used for storing grains after proper treatment with recommended insecticide as advised by Agri-entomologist/Agri-expert. Then treated bags should be completely dried before using. However, new jute bags disseminate the best results for storing wheat commodities.


Which fumigant is used for fumigating the godown?


Aliminium phosphide tablets are particularly used  in godowns as fumigant.

Absolutely right, for promoting shelf life, godown should be air tight in all respects. However, apply mud or cement to fill all the gaps/cracks, if found in walls, floor or roofs. Fumigate the godown completely, with the tablets of aluminium phosphide to kill all type of injurious insects, rats etc. These measures are taken for ensuring cleanliness of godown for promoting shelf life of the commodity. 
Moreover, during fumigation, godown should be airtight for at least 48 hours. Added, after opening the godown, do not enter instantly upto 6 hours and clean the godown thoroughly. 

How can the commodity in godown be saved from insects, rats and rodent etc.?


If the godowns are invaded by any insects or rats, it is recommended  to place the tablets of aluminium phosphide.


How many tablets of aluminium phosphide are required for a godown?


About 30 to 35 tablets of aluminium phosphide  are suggested  per thousand cubic feet.


How the bags of wheat grains are saved if placed in open environment?


The bags of wheat grains should be completely covered by  polythene sheets to avoid induction of any type of moisture or insect by any means.


How many times a godown needs fumigation throughout the year?

Godown should be fumigated at least two times in a year. Firstly, at the time of cleaning before storing the grains just after threshing wheat crop during warm season of April and May. Secondly, fumigate the godown after storing the grains, during humid season of July or August.  

How the seed is cleaned for the sowing of commencing wheat crop!
