Dr. Javed Ahmad assumed the charge of Wheat Research Institute, Faisalabad as Director in 2017. His research experience of twenty eight years (since 10-4-91 to-date) in Breeding, Genetics and Biotechnological research on wheat crop for variety development using conventional (Introduction, Selection, Hybridization) and non-conventional biotechnological techniques (Tissue culture, doubled haploid production using wheat x maize crossing system, molecular breeding), has made him a capable wheat scientist ready to adopt and exploit agricultural research innovations on both grounds i.e. in field and laboratory. In 1992, he did his M.Sc. (Hons.) in Plant Breeding and Genetics from University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. Later on in 2004, he completed his Ph.D. studies on Wheat Biotechnology /doubled haploid production and in 2009 he did his Post Doc. from USA working on wheat breeding / biotechnological aspects. During the course of learning more, he received six months diploma in wheat wide crosses from International Maize & Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), Mexico and many more international and national trainings pertaining to applied field and lab research and also about management which broadened his research vision and exploiting human and research resources efficiently. His research contributions are appreciable as he evolved eight wheat and two barley varieties having high grain yield and resistance to stresses, established 1st working lab. for wheat doubled haploid production in Pakistan, Declared as Productive Scientist of Pakistan by Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of Pakistan, won Merit scholarship from Higher Education Commission (HEC) for Ph.D. studies, won HEC scholarship for Post-Doctoral research at USA, have been selected as HEC approved supervisor for scholarship holder students, received best achiever award from Govt. of Punjab and also won Quaid-e-Azam Gold medal from Tehreek-e-Istehkam-Pakistan Council, Pakistan. He has got more than 80 research publications as main author and co-authors in international and national journals.
