Barani Agri Research Station, Fatehjang

Barani Agricultural Research Station, Fatehjang was established during 1993. It is situated on Kohat road 6 km away from Fatehjang city and about 50 km west of the capital city Islamabad. Total area of this research station is 33.68 Acres. The Station was established to carry out research for the development of crop varieties suitable for rainfed areas to get maximum production. To achieve this target research work was started for the development of high yielding and drought tolerant genotypes of important crops like wheat, chickpea, brassica, lentil, millet and sorghum.

Objectives

The main objectives of the Research Station are:
  • Collection, maintenance and evaluation of germplasm of different crops (Sorghum, Wheat, Chickpea) for utilization in hybridization programme.
  • Development of high yielding, drought tolerant and disease resistant crop varieties of wheat, chickpea and sorghum.
  • Standardization of appropriate production technologies for field crops.
  • Adaptability Trials

Research Activities

By the process of hybridization different varieties of Wheat, Sorghum and Chickpea are developed which are as follow:

Sorghum
  • Maintenance of gene pool of 100 different type
  • Filial Generation trial/ study by hybridization
  • Preliminary yield trial of sorghum
  • Regular yield trial of Sorghum

Wheat
  • Maintenance of gene pool of 150 different type
  • Filial Generation trial/ study by hybridization of wheat
  • Preliminary yield trial of wheat
  • Regular yield trial of wheat
  • Yield trials for advanced lines of wheat
  • PYUT yield trials
  • NUYT Yield Trials
  • Local and international Germplasm screening (NWDSN)
Chickpea
  • Maintenance of gene pool of 100 different type
  • Filial Generation trial/ study by hybridization
  • Preliminary yield trial of Chickpea
  • Regular yield trial of Chickpea
  • Micro yield trial of chickpea
  • NYUT yield trial of Chickpea
  • Cooperative Yield trial of chickpea
  • Screening of germplasm (National and International) provided from ICARDA
 Pulses/ Oil Seed

Same trials are also conducted for Lentil, Mung, Mash, and Oil Seed crops.
