Muhammad Azeem Tariq

Muhammad Azeem Tariq is a pioneer plant breeder of Barani Agricultural Research Institute, Chakwal. He joined the Institute as an Assistant Research Officer, in 1987. He was then promoted to the position of Assistant Botanist in 1996 and Economic Botanist in the year 2008. He served as Olive Botanist from 2017 to 2018 until his promotion as a Director of the Institute on 2nd July, 2018. He developed 09 varieties including Chickpea, Mungbean, Mash, Lentil and Groundnut for the rainfed region. Recently, his efforts led to the development of 9 Olive varieties, 3 Grape varieties, and 1 variety each of Fig and Mash. He also developed 6 booklets on various aspects of agriculture technologies.  Two documentaries on ‘Pruning of olive orchards’ and ‘Olive Nursery Management’ have been prepared under his technical guidelines. He has authored and co-authored more or less 21 research publications. Government of Punjab, awarded him‘Top performance award 2016-17’ and has received annual honorarium eight times during his tenure.
