Achievements

Following are the achievements of the institute:

Wheat

  • Fakhar-e- Bhakkar

The new wheat variety Fakhar-e-Bhakkar was developed at Arid Zone Research Institute Bhakkar. Fakhar-e-Bhakkar displayed maximum yield 6.7 tons per hectare during the course of experimentation. Farmers prefer wheat varieties with high yield potential. The variety also showed better performance in sandy and poor soil conditions. Disease incidences especially yellow and brown are live problem. The variety also showed resistance against major diseases of wheat Yellow Rust (Puccinia striiformis), Leaf Rust (Puccinia triticina) and Stem Rust (Puccinia graminis).

  • Bhakkar-2002

This variety remained popular among farming community for a longer time during the year 2002-2008.

Gram

  • Bhakkar-2011

The new gram variety Bhakkar-2011 was developed at Arid Zone Research Institute Bhakkar. Bhakkar -2011 displayed maximum yield 3.5 tons per hectare during the course of experimentation. Farmers prefer gram varieties with high yield potential. The variety showed better performance in sandy and poor soil under rainfed conditions. Disease incidences especially wilt and blight are live problem. The variety also showed resistance against major diseases of gram.

  • Thal-2006

The gram variety Thal-2006 was developed at Arid Zone Research Institute Bhakkar. Thal-2006 displayed maximum yield 3.2 tons per hectare during the course of experimentation. The variety showed better performance in sandy and poor soil under rainfed conditions. Disease incidences especially blight. The variety also showed resistance against major diseases of gram.

Mungbean

  • AZRI-1

The new mungbean variety AZRI-1 was developed at Arid Zone Research Institute Bhakkar. AZRI-1 displayed maximum yield 3.0 tons per hectare during the course of experimentation. This variety has been cleared by Mungbean Experts on Spot examination held at 03.08.2017. Now it will be discuss in Expert Sub committee in near future. Farmers prefer mungbean varieties with high yield potential. The variety also showed better performance in poor soil and heat stress conditions. Disease incidences especially yellow mosaic virus, urdbean crinkle virus and circuspora leaf spot are live problem. The variety also showed resistance against theses major diseases.

  • AZRI-2

The new mungbean variety AZRI-2 was developed at Arid Zone Research Institute Bhakkar. AZRI-1 displayed maximum yield 2.8 tons per hectare during the course of experimentation. This variety has been cleared by Mungbean Experts on Spot examination held at 03.08.2017. Now it will be discuss in Expert Sub committee in near future. • AZRI-MUNG-2006

The mungbean variety AZRI-Mung-2006 was developed at Arid Zone Research Institute Bhakkar. AZRI Mung-2006 displayed maximum yield 2.6 tons per hectare during the course of experimentation. This is major popular mungbean variety of the area. The variety showed better performance in poor soil and heat stress conditions. Disease incidences especially yellow mosaic virus, urdbean crinkle virus and circuspora leaf spot are live problem. The variety also showed resistance against theses major diseases.

Technology Generation

  • Agronomy of the Major Crops of The Area

Site specific crop production technology of the major crops of the area has been developed at institute level and transferred to the farmers through demonstration plots and farmer’s days.

  • Mechanical Harvesting

Mechanical harvesting of the mungbean is under experimentation and there are satisfactory results to combat shortage of labour at the time of sowing and harvesting of mungbean crop.
